Major Crimes Detectives Identify and Arrest Arson Suspect Believed Responsible for the August 8, 2026, Fire near N. Havana Street and E. Rowan Avenue
Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives, continuing the investigation into a suspicious fire set on August 8, 2026, near N. Havana Street and E. Rowan Avenue, identified and arrested the arson suspect this afternoon.
On August 08, 2026, at approximately 12:40 pm, Spokane County Deputies responded to the area of N. Havana Street and E. Rowan Avenue for a reported fire that was estimated to be the size of half a football field.
Deputies arrived, along with Firefighters, who immediately began extinguishing the flames.
Deputies conducted interviews and obtained information on a possible suspect, including a possible suspect vehicle: a gold 4-door Chrysler.
Major Crimes Detectives, working with DNR Fire Investigators, continued the investigation into this human-caused fire, reviewing video footage and witness statements.
Through their investigation, Detectives identified 61-year-old Danny J. Riesberg as a possible suspect and determined he is the registered owner of a gold Chrysler 200. A criminal history check showed that Riesberg was arrested in Minnesota for 1st Degree Arson in 1995. In 1997, Riesberg pled guilty to 5th Degree Arson.
With assistance from the Spokane Regional Air Support Unit, it was determined that Firefighters stopped the flames approximately 275 feet from a business, but they noted a utility pole was damaged.
After checking the day's weather data, Investigators documented that a Red Flag Warning due to high fire danger had been issued.
Investigators obtained a search warrant, which Major Crimes Detectives served early this morning at a residence in the 4800 block of N. Lacey Street in the City of Spokane, where Riesberg was contacted and arrested for Arson 1st Degree.
Detectives seized his vehicle pending a search warrant.
He was advised of his rights and declined to answer questions.
Riesberg was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for Arson 1st Degree.
