US FAA issues warnings over “military activities” across Eastern Pacific

(MENAFN) US aviation authorities have released a series of flight safety alerts citing ongoing “military activities” across large areas south of the United States, extending into parts of the eastern Pacific.

The aviation notices began appearing on Friday and caution that “potential risks exist for aircraft at all altitudes, including during overflight and the arrival and departure phases of flight.” The advisories are scheduled to remain in force for a 60-day period.

The affected zones span wide swaths of airspace over Mexico, several Central American nations, Colombia and Ecuador, as well as designated areas above the eastern Pacific Ocean.

These warnings follow more than four months of US military operations targeting vessels allegedly linked to drug trafficking in the eastern Pacific and Caribbean regions. Reports indicate that at least 35 boats have been destroyed during these operations, with over 100 people said to have been killed in the strikes.

Earlier this month, Washington carried out a sudden military operation against Venezuela, involving intense airstrikes and a high-risk raid that resulted in the capture of President Nicolas Maduro. He was subsequently transferred to New York to face multiple charges, including drug trafficking. Maduro has rejected all accusations, describing himself as a “prisoner of war.”

The operation against Venezuela was followed by a wave of warnings from US leadership toward other countries in the region that criticized the action, including Cuba and Colombia.

US President Donald Trump also issued threats of military action against Mexico, alleging that the country is controlled by criminal cartels. He claimed that maritime strikes have “knocked out 97% of the drugs coming in by water” and said it was time to “start now hitting land with regard to the cartels.”
